Wentworth Falls & Valley of the Waters http://www.dionisisv.org/blog/2015/3/wentworth-falls-valley-of-the-waters After a tough spell at work I took off a long weekend and headed out to the hills (er, valleys, in the Blueys' case) for some long-ish hikes in the wilderness.

We hiked down to Wentworth Pass, the lowest of the paths around Wentworth Falls, which starts at the lowest level of the falls and tracks the valley floor.

On the second day headed out to Vera Falls in the Valley of the Waters. And leeches.. loads of leeches.

Sydney Electric Storm http://www.dionisisv.org/blog/2015/3/sydney-electric-storm Autumn is a time of electrical storms in Sydney. From my flat I can see them coming from the inland desert, sweeping through Sydney and out to sea...

Grand Canyon, Blue Mountains http://www.dionisisv.org/blog/2014/8/grand-canyon-blue-mountains The Blue Mountains version of the Grand Canyon eschews the big views and wide vistas. Dropping into a narrow track, it follows a stream though a narrow track at the base of the cliffs. It's a still and quiet place, and truly magical to be there. It must have taken millennia for the water erosion to create the canyon, and the place feels like it: big ferns and ancient trees, like a mini Fangorn forest tucked away in this corner of the Blueys.

Sydney, Australia Gavin (colleague and fellow photographer) organised a group of us to head to McMahon's point for Sydney Vivid. Even early on ferries were crowded; I think this has been the busiest Vivid I've seen.

Save for a $100 water taxi, we couldn't make it to Circular Quay on the other side of the bay.

Hobart, Tasmania I stopped and photographed the Tasman bridge on my last day at Hobart, on my way to the airport with a tired and stressed Nirvana, who did bear with me as I was counting down long exposures.

We got to the airport in time. Just.

Spent a beautiful evening photographing around Glebe Point Park with fellow photographers Gavin, Grant and Sharad. I didn't get a picture of the Zwicklbier at Tommy's Bier Cafe afterwards but it was equally memorable!

(Update) Quick technical note: Framing into the top and bottom framelines of the Nikon D700 yields a pretty close 6x17 crop... aka a classic medium format film panoramic frame.

Cox's Road, Blue Mountains http://www.dionisisv.org/blog/2014/6/coxs-road-blue-mountains _DSC6542_DSC6542

Opened in 1813, Cox's road was the first to cross the Blue Mountains, which was previously thought to be an impenetrable barrier to the continent's interior. This is a lovely forested walk, descending Mt York on Cox's road and returning via Lockyer's Pass.

The lighthouse at Darling Harbour is not working any more, so it stays dark for most of the year. It gets dressed up for Vivid, though.

Funny story... http://www.dionisisv.org/blog/2012/3/lets-start-with-a-funny-one

Went away last weekend - impromptu trip to Byron Bay. Decided to leave the digitals at home, packed some Portra and Tri-X and hit the road with my M6.

Waking up at 6am, on holiday, is the hard part. Beautiful once you're out the door, golden light streaming everywhere, serene and calm.

Two days later I finish my roll, but the tension never comes. My frame counter has hit 40... a terrible sinking feeling.

In the dark I know what I will find. The film roll has not taken, the leader is mocking me in silence...

The 36 best exposures of my life... that never were.

Portra 160
